Experience
Eugene Fields, President of Centurion Services, Inc. served with the New Orleans Police Department from 1961-1980, retiring as a Lieutenant in the Major Offense Bureau. At the time he was number two on the Civil Service list for promotion to Captain.
In 1980, he accepted a position with Sheriff Harry Lee, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Chief in command of the Investigations Bureau, remaining in that position until his retirement in 1995. Since then he has operated Centurion Services, Inc., an investigative and security consulting firm operating in LA, MS, and AL.
From 1971-1980 he also served as president of Professional Polygraph Consultants, Inc., the largest polygraph testing firm in LA.
He majored in Criminal Justice at Loyola University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, US Secret Service Dignitary Protection Course, the US Customs Cross Training Course, Texas A &M Polygraph Examiners School, and the LSU Law Enforcement Institute.
He has lectured at the LSU School of Law, Xavier University, School of Pharmacy, LSU Law Enforcement Institute, University of Louisville, Alabama Criminal Justice Academy, New Orleans Police Academy, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Academy, and the Hancock County, MS Sheriff’s Department. He served as an ad hoc member on the LA Governor’s Drug Policy Board from 1989-1995. In this position he participated in the review and recommendation on all Federal Grant applications by Law Enforcement in the State of LA.
He was selected in 1993 to participate in a National Homicide Symposium, hosted by the FBI. In 1994 he was appointed as a Committee Member at the FBI Academy, to revise an operational manual for creating and implementing interagency violent crime task force operations. In 2001 he was appointed to the Transition team, Public Safety Task Force for New Orleans Mayor-elect Ray Nagin. He is a lifetime member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and has served on the Investigations Committee of that organization since 1983.
During his law enforcement career he has been involved in over 750 homicide investigations, either as lead investigator, support or supervisor. He has personally interviewed three serial killers, Henry Lee Lucas, John Francis Willie and Judith Walters and has worked for the families of serial murder victims in Baton Rouge, LA
He has received mention in ten books, one of which, ‘Badge of the Assassin” became a made for TV movie.
